Eczema Causes & Cures

Eczema is a chronic skin condition that involves scaly, itchy skin with blisters that ooze liquids. Also it is characterized by dry, rough skin with chronic & intense itching. Unfortunately the exact cause of eczema is unknown but it is possibly linked to the body's immune system which reacts to certain trigger mechanisms. Many people can suffer from itchy eczema rashes when the skin comes into contact with certain substances. Heat, cold, rough materials, cold weather, stress and a myriad of other issues can cause flare ups in many types of people. Sometimes eczema is referred to as "the itch that rashes." The first symptom of eczema is usually intense itching with the red bumpy rash appearing later on This rash will itch, burn and may even cause extreme pain in severe cases. When scratched which is a normal reaction to eczema the rash may ooze and become hard & crusty. It should be noted that chronic rubbing produces thickened layers of skin and extremely painful skin cracks. In severe cases when the skin cracks there is a distinct possibility that infection will result causing complications which may require the use of antibiodics. It is important in the initial stages of treatment to keep the rash area moist and clean to prevent any addtional medical conditions. To treat eczema there are many topical applications that purport to cure all the symptoms. There is no cure for eczema but you can relieve the discomfort and itching with certain topical treatments. The main focus should be to stay away from triggers that will cause allergic reactions. A medical exam is needed to determine what your allergic triggers are. A personal journal may also be of help so when there is a flare up you may be able to pin point the cause. All eczema treatments are temporary in nature and this conditions requires constant and possibly life long treatments.
